Dube’s Stylish Comeback Sink Afghanistan

IND vs AFG 1st T20I Report: In the inaugural T20I clash between India and Afghanistan at Mohali, Shivam Dube etched his name in the headlines with a remarkable performance, prompting the phrase 'comeback like Dube'. His unbeaten 60 runs became the cornerstone as Rohit Sharma's return to T20Is failed to make a significant impact, much to the disappointment of fans.

After a considerable hiatus from T20Is, Rohit Sharma's comeback wasn't the spectacle many anticipated, falling for a duck early on and leaving India precariously positioned at 9/1 within just two overs.

However, Shivam Dube's entrance proved pivotal. Not only did he claim the crucial wicket of Afghanistan's skipper, Ibrahim Zadran, but his aggressive yet calculated batting against both spinners and pacers highlighted his multifaceted skills. Jitesh Sharma also played his part, chipping in with a brisk 31 off 20 deliveries, ensuring India maintained momentum.

While Afghanistan showcased resilience, with notable contributions from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, the combined efforts of Axar Patel and Washington Sundar curtailed Afghanistan's run-scoring opportunities.

The evergreen Mohammad Nabi, at 39, defied age with a dazzling 42 runs, steering Afghanistan to a respectable total. Despite the early jolt of losing Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill's aggressive intent, coupled with Dube's composed innings, propelled India to a well-deserved victory.

Renowned for his prowess against spinners, Dube showcased exemplary skill against Mujeeb Ur Rahman's tricky deliveries. His fifty off 38 balls, punctuated by a decisive six and boundary against Naveen-ul-Haq, cemented India's win.

Jitesh Sharma, maintaining his rhythm, displayed his aggressive style, although Mujeeb's guile ended his cameo in the 14th over. Dube and Rinku Singh then ensured India's victory in what was a pulsating start to the T20I series.
